Beautiful Stories by Anonymous People

Alison Lea Bender

It’s literally just a random person every episode telling a story. Some of the stories are silly and make me laugh, while others made me cry. I can have some issues with focusing, but this podcast always has me hooked from start to finish.

My Favorite Murder

Autumn Henry

Generally I don’t think murder and comedy thrive together but one of the hottest podcasts out there right now certainly makes me believe that anything is possible.  Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, two comedians obsessed with true crime, host the wildly successful podcast My Favorite Murder.  They’ve certainly lured all of us 80’s kids raised on Unsolved Mysteries, America’s Most Wanted and 48 Hours into joining forces and uniting in fascination with the ugliest sides of human behavior and circumstances. I delight in their banter, which is where the comedy lies, and I respect their reverence for victims and survivors as they unravel the most harrowing tales worldwide. Listening to this podcast is like being a member of the coolest, funniest, true crime dork club and I can’t get enough.

How Did This Get Made?

Melissa Slaughter

How Did This Get Made is the podcast that got me into podcasts in the first place. So it’s got a very special place in my heart. Three years after I started listening, it’s the podcast that always brings a smile to my face. The concept is that three comedians watch a terrible film and discuss. Hosts Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael are always hilarious and the special guests and All-Stars never disappoint. I even got to see them live at the Now Hear This Fest this fall and it was a freaking joy. Basically any episode about a movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Nicolas Cage is going to be a fan favorite. We live in scary times when all I want to do is ball up and listen to something that’s going to make me laugh out loud.

KK Yoga

Rebecca Lee Lerman

As a yoga instructor, it is important to cue a yoga sequence in a clear and concise manner so, while moving, the practitioners do not get confused with what to do with their bodies and injure themselves. The teacher is also responsible for the overall feel and atmosphere of the class. KK yoga Podcast is a series of yoga classes taught by Kay Kay Clivio. Her teachings inform me of the best way to communicate to my own students---for them to understand within their own bodies, the anatomical and spiritual and create the best possible experience for them. 2 Dope Queens

Sam Tanabe

Yes to comedy, yes to laughing out loud on public transportation, yes to two fierce Black Queens delivering you perspective and entertainment.

The Tony Kornheiser Show

Matt Blank

I can’t face the world without my regular installments of The Tony Kornheiser Show, nominally a DC-based sports program, which generally devolves into a room of incredibly smart, influential people going off on tangents and making inside jokes. You take a legendary journalist-turned-TV-personality whose frame of reference dates back to the 19th century and whose memory for Yankees stats is matched only by his love of Bernadette Peters. You surround him with a motley crew of regular guests ranging from a fake British sidekick to the former White House Head of Communications to Charles Barkley to James Carville to Connie Chung to Chuck Todd.

You bring in a devoted legion of fans ready with a snarky letter or musical tribute. You sit them all down together each morning at Chatter, the DC restaurant he purchased last year. You bring in a rough list of headlines and topics to riff on. You play some old tunes and pour a round of morning drinks. Then the magic just happens. The result is a mishmash of complete intellectual verbal diarrhea that will somehow make you smarter and stupider at the same time. As the real estate in your brain is occupied with elitist nonsense and lowbrow humor, you will surely annoy your friends, alienate your family, and smile a lot more. It’s divine.
